ART AND SOCIALISM WITH ALLAN BRACK WIN Art and Socialism – YouTube
In this discussion we look at the role of the arts in the struggle for socialism, and the huge potential for developing our creative cultural voice in raising awareness and solidarity, and challenging the threat to humanity posed by the evils of late capitalism. Despite the efforts of capitalism to commodify and promote elitism in the arts, the arts have their own autonomy and power. They reach deep into the human psyche and draw from our collective history; they communicate and change perceptions; they entertain and educate; they create beauty and pleasure; they move, stir and excite the emotions and bring people together. They have a universal language and have an impact in so many ways on our daily lives. They have the power to help create social change and so to change the world. We look further at how in a socialist society we could see the dawning of a new age where our individual and collective consciousness, talents and creativity could combine to propel our civilisation forward into new ways of being. The arts have a unique role to play in building the bridge between where we are now and where we want to be. How can we maximise the effectiveness of the arts in our struggles, and what do we need to do to support this? The discussion is opened by artist and community activist Allan Brack, former organiser of Bradford Festival and more recently Bradford Transformed.SHOW LESS
