Canadian workers are facing a series of attacks on their lifestyle and workplace practices. Since the commencement of Trump’s verbal and tariff backed threats the cost of living has suffered from price increases of many essentials, including fuel and winter heating. The government of Carney is trying to protect the profits sector of the economy by developing closer relationships with the right wing politicians and bureaucracy of Europe and NATO, whose emphasis is on the rearming of Europe to face down or even fight against Russia. The encirclement of Canada by the military based deal of the US effective grab of Greenland adds to the sense of threat.
Recently, the Canadian Minister for Labour was granted authority to suppress public services strikes without need of reference to Parliament, further indicating whose side Carney is really on.
John Clarke, retired leader of the Ontario Coalition against Poverty, was welcomed back again to update and broaden on the life and struggles of the working class in Canada against the background of the pressures of the crisis of capitalism there.
