A WIN discussion March 2025. See the recording HERE. South America’s second largest economy Argentina has witnessed a kaleidoscopic variety of political upheavals: Juan Peron’s populist-bonapartist regime, a guerrilla insurgency, a brutal military dictatorship, a “dirty war” costing 30,000 lives, defeat in the Falklands war, continuing turmoil and instability, and since October 2023 the rule of the ultra-Trumpist president Javier Milei, who has slashed public expenditure and presided over falling wages and an inflation rate at one point touching 25% per month.
To explain the current crisis in Argentina, this week we welcomed Norma Graciela Sanchez, an Argentinian/French physicist who lives intermittently in Argentina and France. She is a trade unionist and member of the French Militant network.
As background to this discussion, here is the audio recording of an interview recently conducted by the visiting US socialist Eric Gee with Guillermo Kane, leader of the Argentine Partido Obrero.
