CLASS STRUGGLES IN LATIN AMERICA 20 FEB 22 – YouTube
After decades of brutal dictatorships alternating with weak parliamentary intervals, the countries of Latin America are once again entering a period of mass struggle. In Chile, three million people participated in street protests to sweep away the relics of the Pinochet regime and elect a left reformist president. At least one million joined the uprising in Colombia. There have been huge demonstrations against the reactionary Bolsonaro regime in Brazil. Tens of thousands of workers have been on strike in Mexico. Similar upheavals have rocked the entire sub-continent. Meanwhile, Cuba has seen the biggest ever mobilisations for democratic rights. What are the prospects for lasting victory this time against a corrupt and murderous ruling elite? The discussion was introduced by FABIO BOSCO of the Brazilian Labour and People’s Federation CSP-Conlutas and PSTU (United Socialist Workers’ Party).
