IRAN: “NOT A PROTEST – A REVOLUTION!” – A WIN Discussion, October 2022 – YouTube
Here are some of the declarations made by participants in the uprising sweeping Iran this week…
“This is not a protest. This is a revolution.”
“Injustice, poverty and lack of freedom have put everyone in an explosive condition.“
“The situation is intolerable. We live in poverty and misery, we are no longer fooled by promises and slogans.“
“The fire of our anger is still burning and the Islamic Republic is melting like ice.”
“These protests will continue until the complete overthrow of the Islamic Republic.“
After four weeks there is no sign of any decline in the upsurge against the rule of Iran’s Islamic Republic. The arrest and murder of 22-year old Mahsa Amini by the “morality police” have sparked a wave of mass defiance under the slogan “Woman, life, freedom!”. It is young people and women, including schoolgirls, who have been at the forefront of this movement, which is still growing despite the regime’s harsh crackdown, which has brought hundreds of deaths, thousands wounded, large-scale arrests and continuous disruption of the internet. The street demonstrations at universities, primary and secondary schools, and many workplaces, have now spread to strikes of petrochemical and oil industry workers. These all point to a revolutionary situation which has shaken the foundations of the Islamic Republic, with repercussions not only on Iran but in the whole region and beyond.
Aman Kafa gave us an up-to-the-minute report and explained the crucial need for international solidarity with the revolutionary movement in Iran.
