IRAN: THE CRISIS DEEPENS A Workers’ International Network meeting – Sunday 29th May 2022 – YouTube

A unique insight into Iran’s growing social crisis – authentic news of the workers’ underground revolt from an Iranian socialist activist
Under the burden of a sliding currency devaluation, soaring inflation and widespread corruption, some 60% of the population of Iran have been driven below the official poverty line. Meanwhile, inadequate state planning and prolonged neglect have severely damaged the environment, causing drought, sandstorms and the drying up of natural water reserves, with the result that Iran currently has by far the worst land subsidence in the world.
In spite of brutal state oppression, with individuals literally snatched and imprisoned and protesters shot down, there are daily protests against the crippling rise in prices and the lack of any safety net for the overwhelming majority of the population by people in all walks of life, including strikes by teachers and by workers in public transport, steel plants, mines, oil and petrochemical refineries… Over the last twelve months alone, over 4,000 such protest actions have been recorded – an average of eleven per day. As the polarisation in society deepens further, a workers’ alternative is becoming more and more socially visible in the country.
