A WIN discussion December 2024. Follow it on Youtube HERE. The recent general election in Ireland has marked a setback for the left. The two traditional parties of the ruling class have between them come close to an overall majority and are likely to continue to rule as a reactionary coalition. The Greens have been all but wiped out; Sinn Fein has lost momentum in terms of its voting percentage; some outstanding left independents including Joan Collins have lost their seats, and, having only recently lost her seat in the European parliament, the inspirational Clare Daly failed to gain election to the Dail.
What is the outlook now for the working class? And what lessons can be learned by the left? To offer an insight into these questions and a clear perspective, our speaker this week was the veteran trade union militant and socialist activist Jimmy Kelly.
