BRITAIN: SLIDING INTO DISASTER? A Workers’ International Network meeting June 2022 – YouTube
Against a grim international background of pandemic, war and looming recession, Britain today is facing its sharpest crisis in living memory: economic catastrophe; galloping inflation; a plunging pound; a looming trade war; and zero growth – the lowest in the OECD apart from Russia. At the head of a brazenly corrupt government, its third Tory prime minister in six years barely clings on to power by his fingernails.
Meanwhile, workers are suffering plummeting real wages, soaring prices, growing repression and racist diversions, with millions of families already going hungry and looking ahead to a freezing winter.
But the fight back has started! Hundreds of thousands of workers marched through London last weekend. Railway workers have launched the biggest national strike for decades, soon to be followed by postal and communications workers, teachers, nurses, even hospital doctors and barristers.
Has Britain reached a turning point? Can the working class win real victories? Can Labour be reclaimed, or will the unions break decisively with Starmer’s parliamentary clique?
