In recent years we have witnessed on the one hand an unprecedented wave of unrest, in protest movements in the USA and Europe and mass uprisings from Latin America to Africa and Asia; on the other, the rise and in many cases the electoral victory of far-right parties, including most recently the return of Donald Trump in the USA. At our weekly zoom meetings over the last five years the Workers’ International Network has welcomed comrades from all over the world giving first-hand on-the-spot reports of workers’ struggles in their respective countries. At this week’s meeting WIN is hosting an open forum discussion on the general nature of the outlook the whole world is facing. Have we entered a new dark period of setbacks and defeats for the working class? Or is this an episodic backlash which will provoke new upsurges? How far can reaction go? Are we in a period of revolution or counter-revolution? This week, instead of a named speaker, we invited Roger Silverman to introduce the topic and comrades to join the discussion and contribute their own experiences and conclusions.
