Win discussion February 2026. See it HERE. A wave of revolt is shaking Asia. Last week’s 300 million-strong general strike in India – the biggest workers’ mobilisation in world history – follows the aragalaya in Sri Lanka in 2022, the July revolution in Bangladesh in 2024, and a series of massive youth uprisings in just the last few months in Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines and Iran. The so-called “Gen Z” uprisings have brought young people pouring on to the streets, in some cases sacrificing their lives by the thousands. Governments have collapsed; dictators and corrupt ministers have fled.
What is the programme of the insurgent youth? Will their hopes be fulfilled? How can they share their experiences and link up their struggles?
At a WIN meeting last September the report from Nepal presented by Bhawana Ghimire was an inspiration to participants from across the world, as were our recent meetings with speakers from India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and the Philippines. WIN is keen to help build more permanent links so that we can all collectively learn together from our common struggles. We invited comrades from around the world and especially from these countries to this week’s meeting, where Prakash Devkota, a prominent activist in the Nepali youth forum Marxist Outlook, gave us an update on the historic youth uprising there.
