A WIN discussion July 2024. Last month’s elections for the European parliament confirmed recent trends around the world: a retreat for the left and the rise of far-right parties throughout most of the continent, and beyond. Listen to the discussion HERE
One of the most prominent casualties of this process was an outstanding socialist voice in the European parliament: Clare Daly of Ireland. Her passionate denunciations of the genocide in Gaza and of the preparations for war worldwide reached a massive audience far beyond the shores of Ireland. Clare’s electoral defeat may have been celebrated by the ruling classes of Europe; but her voice has not been silenced!
Among other Irish champions of workers’ rights are Joan Collins, the militant left TD (MP) who has led the struggle in the Dail for trade union rights, and the tireless veteran working-class campaigner Dermot Connolly, both leading activists in the group Independents4change
WIN was proud to welcome Clare, Joan and Dermot to speak and answer questions, and the meeting was chaired by Finn Geaney, president of the Dublin Trades Council.
