Early Saturday morning the USA aided by its ally Israel launched an attack on Iran. This murderous bombing and missile assault comes just a day after the third round of US-Iran negotiations over Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme. This is unprovoked aggression and the USA and Israel are the aggressors.
This is not the first time the USA and Israel have attacked Iran, in June 2025 they launched a 12 day “war” on the Iranian regime. That attack had to be called off as the longer it carried on the more it was going in Iran’s favour as Israel’s air defence system was stretched to almost breaking point. Although President Trump claimed at the time that the American bunker-buster bombs had “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s enrichment programme, that is now exposed as empty boasting. Equally untrue is the Trump regime’s latest claim that Iran is “probably a week away from having industrial-grade bomb-making material.”
Smarting from their failed attempt to make the Iranians capitulate in 2024, the USA has over the last couple of months built up the largest military force in the region since the Gulf war of 2003. At first this was justified by the desire to “help” the protesters against the regime in Iran. Though anyone with even the most elementary knowledge of events in Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya will know what USA help changing the regime is likely to deliver. Now, they claim to wish to destroy Iran’s nuclear capability, that they previously said they had destroyed.
The only Iranian supporters of Israel and the USA attacking Iran are the exiled Iranian monarchists who danced in jubilation as the bombs rained down on their homeland. If the Iranian monarchists are hoping to be rewarded the same way that their Venezuelan equivalents were, kicked to the curb just as soon as their usefulness as a pretext for regime change, they are certainly going about it the right way. Who in Iran would welcome these monarchists home now?
War has never brought liberation for ordinary people, only more violence and oppression. The military might of the USA and Israel might be capable of destroying Iran’s military and industrial capacity but only after expending huge sums of blood and treasure. The consequences of any war against Iran can only be further chaos and instability in the region and that will only prepare the way for future wars. If the Iranian regime were to be brought down there are no strong political rivals poised to take over, this would create a power vacuum in Iran just as it did in Iraq only on a larger and far more dangerous level.
The Iraq war disrupted the equilibrium in the middle east. Iran is the link between the middle east and the Indian subcontinent, where even now the Afghan and Pakistani regimes are engaged in an escalating war. Trump stood on an election pledge of no more forever wars, he is now seeking to plunge the USA into a war at home waged by ICE and a war in Iran. In 1986 the “USA for Africa” attempted to stage a human chain across America of people linking hands to combat poverty. Trump is now attempting to create a chain of war across the Asian continent to preserve American dominance.
We are socialists, we are no advocates for the clerical regime in Iran, we are advocates for the Iranian working class. Bringing down the regime of the clerics is the task of the Iranian working class, not the American imperialists or the Israeli Zionists. We in Britain will help and assist our sisters and brothers of Iran to the best of our ability by remembering that our main enemy is at home, our own capitalist class. The same men and women who participated in, or tried to cover up, the vile crimes of the Epstein class have ordered this war. A first step in helping our Iranian brothers and sisters would be by dragging these creatures out of office and throwing them into jail.
Ever since the Iranian revolution of 1979 Iran has been portrayed as the biggest threat to peace and stability in the region but it is the western capitalist powers who are bathed in the blood of the oppressed. Only by a struggle against the capitalist class, and their system, can we liberate the oppressed people of the world and secure for them prosperity and peace.
