Comrades will remember the inspiring impromptu report made three weeks ago by our comrade Cliff Willmeng, a trade union activist in Minneapolis, following the murder of Renee Good by Trump’s invading paramilitary thugs of ICE. Since then the intensified occupation of the city, the indiscriminate seizure and incarceration of ethnic minority workers, the terrorisation of local protesters, and the cold-blooded summary execution of Alex Pretti have aroused universal outrage: huge mass demonstrations, a city-wide general strike (the first for almost a century) and a tidal wave of solidarity actions throughout the country. The outlook for the USA is suddenly transformed. Is the working class beginning to free itself at last from entanglements with capitalist politics and launch a militant independent fightback?
